Sita Chaitanya
Biography
Sita began studying yoga in the tradition of Sivananda in January, 2002. That year, while attending a weekend retreat in Austin, TX, she met Swami Atma and received her mantra initiation from him.
In July 2003, she traveled to Val Morin, Canada to attend the International Sivananda Yoga Teachers Training Course. Following the TTC Sita began teaching various places around Austin and nearby communities. Besides the TTC in Canada, she has also attended numerous AYA retreats and SYVC ashrams around the world, in Costa Rica, Hawaii, New York, and the Bahamas, to strengthen her own practice and further her understanding of the yoga teachings.
Sita became certified to teach meditation courses using the traditional techniques of yoga meditation upon successful completion of the first AYA Meditation Teachers Training Course in May 2005.
On March 17th, 2006, Sita was initiated into Brahmacharya by Swami Atma.
Also in March, 2006 she opened the AYA Yoga and Meditation Center located in North Austin, TX where she is now the main teacher of the center.
In July, 2008, Sita completed the english Advanced Yoga Teachers Training Hatha Yoga Pradipika Course at Yoga Vidya in Bad Meinberg, Germany, led by Swami Atma and Sukadev. Here she also attended an asana intensive course and a Secrets of the Mind workshop with Swami Atma.
Her personal yoga practice includes study and application of the yoga of synthesis as described by Swami Sivananda. Currently Sita also studies Sanskrit with Dr. Saraswati Mohan from India.
She is the mother of two daughters who reside with her.
