Levoča Ashram

    How to Get There

Honestly, the ashram is not the easiest place to get to from Western Europe or the US but there are many options and possibilities.

    The Gist

So far we don't have a car so there is a good chance that we'll pick you up by bus. If you come from a foreign country and don't speak Slovak that will still be useful.

    By Car

The easiest is to use this map to get the driving directions from any point you choose.

If you come in the Winter please remember that there is small stretch or a road which is quite steep as it goes through the mountains so your car needs to be equipped with Winter tires.

Your driving time might be a bit longer than the Google estimates. The roads in Slovakia are in good shape and there is usually not too much traffic.

    By Bus

There is a good network of buses in Slovakia. It looks like there is one direct bus connection between Vienna, Austria and Levoča.

As explained above you want to get a ticket for Levoča or, if not possible, Spišská Nová Ves which is the town nearby.

    By Train

There are no train stations in Levoča so the closest you can get to is Spišská Nová Ves. If you can't find any other connections, we'll pick you up at Poprad.

    By Plane

We haven't completely solved that riddle yet. There are many options but none of them seem too good at this point. There are flights to Bratislava from most big cities in Western Europe.

From Bratislava you can fly to Košice and may be to Poprad. We are not sure yet about the latter. There are a few direct flights a week from London to Poprad. You might also be able to fly to Košice or Poprad from Prague. Please ask your travel agent or use your Internet resources to find out how to fly to Poprad or Košice. When we get more details we'll post them here.

    Flight + Train

Bratislava is only a 5-hour train ride from Poprad so you could take the bus, or even easier an affordable cab ride, to get from the Bratislava airport to the train station and from there take a train to Poprad.

    Flight + Bus

There are direct bus lines from Bratislava to Levoča. Although this solution might not be the very fastest or the most comfortable, it's quite easy.

    Flight + Car Rental

Another good solution would be to fly to Bratislava or Vienna and rent a car. That's not the most economical solution but it gives you the freedom the visit the area once you are in Levoča. See the section above about driving regarding Winter conditions.

    It Seems Hard!

Hey, a few decades ago, one had to fly to India and travel in horrible conditions to learn yoga. A little hardship has never killed anyone. The question is whether the trip is worth what you get by going to the ashram.
