Sanskrit Yoga Glossary
- Literally means "eight limbs".
Traditionally ashtanga yoga refers to raja yoga as the eight limbs of yoga found in the yoga sutras of Patanjali Maharishi. Not to be confused with the modern practice of ashtanga yoga by Pattabhi Jois.
Ashtanga is a sanskrit compound word made by joining together ashta (aSTa) or "eight" with anga (aMga) or "limb".
