- Heaviness, dullness, laziness.
- One of the three gunas.
Additional Explanation(s)
When tamas increases in a person, the characteristics are desire to do nothing, forgetfulness of one’s duty, inertia, heedlessness, delusion, confusion and darkness.
Tamasic foods are stale, tasteless, rotten, impure, and overcooked. Any kind of food can be tamasic if overcooked, overripe, or left out for too long. Eating tamasic food will increase the characteristics of tamas in a person.
